Our Trip to Windsor

Windsor Castle and the town of Windsor are magical places and are always at the top of our 'must see' list when visiting the UK.  On 10th November 2019, Cathy A and Cathy T travelled by train to Windsor. The day was beautiful, if a little chilly and the ride by train was delightful (and particularly restful for our tired feet). Windsor Castle is a short stroll from the station, so it did not take us long to arrive at our destination. Having said that, we did duck back to the township for a coffee and cake break (when we learned there were no coffee shops on the castle grounds) before exploring one of England's iconic landmarks.
The large scaled diorama of the medieval layout of the castle was particularly interesting as it gave the authors the opportunity to really get a feel for how Windsor looked during the 14th century.
The private garden at Windsor Castle is just that - private. But what a beautiful space and one that features regularly in The Traitors Noose and Roar of the Lion.
Unfortunately, photography is not permitted inside the castle, which was terribly disappointing, particularly in St George's Hall, where Cathy A and Cathy T went searching for the coat of arms of the Black Prince, the 2nd invested member of the Order of the Garter, after his father, Edward III. A shield, for every member, past and present, appears on the roof of the building. (The following images were obtained from the internet).
Queen Mary's Doll House was enchanting, the work of Sir Edwin Lutyens and the hundreds of talented artists that contributed to its construction. (The following images were obtained from the internet).
The day came to a close with a final walk around the Lower Ward and watching the changing of the guard.
